80 Day Obsession – Day 24

Where to I even start with today? The truth is, this is a fitness blog, not my personal life blog, not a political blog, or anything else. But the truth is that we don’t follow fitness and nutrition plans in a vacuum. The rest of the world, the rest of our lives don’t stop just because we’re doing 80 Day Obsession. Even if you’re doing 80 Day Obsession, at the end  you should move on to a new fitness and nutrition program if you want to continue or maintain the results you get. The point is life will always be happening while you are doing a fitness and/or nutrition program. So even though this blog is about fitness and nutrition, it’s also about how I stick with it, despite whatever might be going on in my life.

Again, this isn’t a political blog, so I’ll keep this brief. I am an attorney. Practicing law isn’t the main job that I have, in fact I’m more or less transitioning away from it. But I still have a number of clients. Today I took a client to an interview. It should have been a very basic straightforward interview, but my client was arrested. In all my years of practicing law I’d never heard of someone being arrested at this type of interview before (it turns out it has happened at least once before, but it is very rare). Needless to say, my day quickly went from average (I was planning to get in my workout, maybe even go to the movies, and have a relaxing night) to out of control. I had a lot to do. And personally, I felt that what happened was morally despicable. I won’t go into details because this isn’t a political blog, but if you want to know more you can find more information in this news clip.

How did this factor into my fitness and nutrition program. Well, one minute I thought my biggest concern was that my meal would be a few minutes late, and I was hoping I could sneak a sip of a protein shake in the interview to at least get part of the meal in on time. 10 minutes later the course of my entire day changed. I gobbled down carrots as I made my way around town (got my green/red in). Eventually I made it home and got my workout in.

Let me tell you, Autumn does these motivational talks during the workouts, not just about how you show up for your workouts, but how you show up for life. Wow, I really needed to hear what she had to say. For that hour of the workout I shut off my phone and tried to calm and refocus, and get in that workout.

Needless to say, I didn’t get pics of all my food because it was such a crazy day. But here is what I got. And I didn’t let these life circumstances be an excuse for not getting in the workout!

With the bands on. A much needed “break” was had during this workout.
Shakeology… or at least it was Shakeology…
Celery. The blue (healthy fat) was coconut milk in chai. A little something to help ground me, I love my chai.

The big meal. This was spaghetti squash, marinara, black beans, and tofu. It was very yummy.
